I think we’d had too many Aperols in the piazza when we fell in love with the Fontana del Nettuno. The wildness of it, the generosity. We learned the word luxuriant that summer, rolling the Rs in our mouths and toasting each other under the apricot trees and among the statuary, swimming in the fountain in the center of the garden, playing museum, posing ourselves in a perpetual embrace.
